My students.

I know it's been almost three weeks since I left China but I can still recall the names of my students as if I just saw them today. Listed below is the people who welcomed me to country and into their lives for one month as my students. I will never forget them and I think of them on a daily basis as they prepare to teach their own students. These are their English names that we used during the time I was with them.

Thanks for your warm welcome to China. It was a honor to be your teacher.

Homecoming Part II

Today I arrived back to my home and school in Newberg, Oregon. I wrote this post from my apartment that is located near George Fox University.

My Parents enjoyed a scenic drive today from Boise, Idaho. We traveled on Highway 84 through the eastern and nothern Oregon. We didn't experienced a whole lot of traffic problems.

It's nice to be back in Newberg and to see my classmates and friends in person.

Thank you Mom and Dad for bringing me back to my school and home.

August 21, 1989.

This was the day I entered the U.S. Navy. It seemed like
that day was so long ago. I've traveled over many miles
since then. I met a number of good friends and visited
numerous countries.

I left the U.S. Navy on November 24, 1998 and began courses at
Ventura Community College. I'm now attending George Fox
University in Newberg, Oregon. I'm looking forward to beginning
classes next week and graduating in December.

How am I feeling today?

I’m feeling sad because:

I left China on August 10th.
I miss my Chinese students very much.
I miss my teaching team mates.
I want to return to China for a longer period of time.

I miss attending my Oregon church.
I miss spending time with Livvy who I met in Pasadena.
My friend Joel won’t be on campus this Fall
I won’t see my brother Allen and his wife Sheri until the spring.

I’m feeling happy because:

I’m back in the United States of America.
I’m returning to my home and school in Oregon.
I helped my Chinese students improve their English skills.

I get to send emails to my Chinese students.
I can chat with my Livvy on the computer.
I will graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree this December.
My friend Joel will be able to experience the Middle East Studies Program in Cairo, Egypt this Fall.
Lonnie and Laverne, my second set of “parents,” are serving the
Native Americans in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Thank You!!

I arrived back to the United States this morning after
spending a month in China teaching English. I would
like to say thank you to a number of people who made
this trip a extraordinary experience for me.

Thank you: to my team mates Dave, Patti, Kimberly and
Steve.

to my China team mates for training and traveling to
China with me.

to my "lovely" students for allowing me to enter their
classrooms to become their teacher this summer.

for the many Chinese people I met in Beijing. Your
hospitality is among the best I've enjoyed in all of
my world travels. Thanks for asking me questions in
Mandarin so that I can practice the Chinese language.

for Air China for safely taking and bringing my team
mates and I to/from China. Your employees are tops
in my book.

for my parents who stayed up late this morning to
meet me at the Boise airport. I look forward to
sharing about my China trip with you and helping you
move into your "new home" here in Idaho.

for my friends who donated money so that I can return
to China to teach English. I hope I can share with you
how your financial resources were used in
my teaching.

Lastly, to the ESEC/ TeachOverseas.Org family. Thanks
for selecting me to be apart of your team this summer.
It was a honor and privilege to represent you and I
hope I can return next year.

Thanks again to all these people.
