why China?

To experience the Chinese culture:

China in my opinion and experience is the place to be at this time in the world. I really enjoyed the many aspects of the Chinese culture especially the food. I'm anxious to experience the formal banquets and the fun that is enjoyed by everyone as we toast and celebrate the relationship the U.S. and China shares.

Learn more about teaching:

My job in China will be to teach English to students in either a high school or university setting. This will be my second time teaching English in China. The first time was last summer as I taught English in the capitol city of Beijing. I enjoy teaching and sharing my life with the students who are eager to learn about the English language and about us. Teaching is challenging especially in a foreign country but the rewards are beyond words. I'm looking forward to stepping into my "classroom" and introducing myself to "my" students. A added note here is I have to be aware on a daily basis that I'm the guest in China and that I'm representing America to the Chinese people.
To meet people who live in a foreign country:

I enjoy traveling and been blessed in the last 20 years to been able to have the resources to spend time in a variety of foreign countries. Each country I've visited has it's own special flavor and pace so I've been able to try to absorb each of them in my own way. The Chinese people I've taught and spent time with don't have the same opportunites that I have to experience travel to other countries. I see this as a added responsibility to share my stories and experiences of domestic and global travel with the Chinese students.

These are three of the reasons why I'm leaving America to travel and teach in China for the 2006-2007 school year. I have a number of other reasons to share but I'll share those in the future.
